Remember The Milk CSV export script

, posted

This post is aimed at fellow Remember The Milk users.

In short: I made a CSV export MilkScript for RTM. Grab it here.

Folks have been asking Remember The Milk for CSV export since at least 2007, so I built a basic version.

Here’s what it looks like:

Let’s see how to use it.

One-time setup

To use this, you’ll need to have access to MilkScript, so you need to be a Pro user. After that, create a MilkScript:

  1. Click the page icon in the top bar.
  2. Click “New…”.
  3. Update the title from “Untitled script” to “CSV export”.
  4. Copy all of this code and paste it into the code area.
  5. Click the “Save script” button, which looks like a floppy disk near the top of the window.

Once you’ve done that, you’re all ready to go!

Once you’ve done the one-time setup, you can run this script.

  1. Select at least one task.
  2. Click the page icon in the top bar.
  3. Select “CSV export” and confirm that you wish to run it.
  4. Copy or download the resulting CSV!

Note that this may not work if you select lots of tasks because MilkScript has some limitations.

Feedback wanted

This is a very basic solution. It’s missing lots of data (for example, task start dates are not included). It’s not super elegant. It breaks if you have lots of tasks. But I hope it’s useful!

If you have comments or feature requests, please reach out. This is something I built in my spare time—so no promises that I’ll implement your ideas—but if it’s easy I can probably add it.

Also, the code is all open source if you want to review it.
